Kids workshops

Kids can attend workshops around nature, crafts, arts and science. The availability of certain workshops depends on the season so always ask us upfront.

Adults workshops

Adults can also attend workshops. We are focussed on self reliance, sustainability, personal growth, physical and mental wellbeing.

Passadiços do mondego

The Passadiços do Mondego is a new 12 KM boardwalk straight through nature. Several suspension bridges bring you across the mondego river.

Museums

There are several museums in our surroundings, even Meios itselves does have a museum, a wool museum.

Geosites

The Estrela region presents a significant diversity of granite landforms at different scales, including large forms such as inselbergs, medium-scale forms such as zoomorphic forms resembling animals, anthropomorphic forms resembling humans, and detailed forms such as sinks and taffoni.

Picnic spots

On our property but also in our surrounding area, there are plenty of spots to have a nice picnic. You can even order your pre filled picnic basket.

Swimming

There are many options to get some refreshment during the summer. For the little ones at Starbase18 we have a shallow plunge pool available. If you prefer open water, try the big lake called "barragem do Caldeirão" only minutes away. If you like shade and the calming sound of the river, pick one of the river beaches. There are several safe and child friendly spots close by..

Hiking & Walking

Countless trails start straight from our property, so no need to drive somewhere first. All of the Serra da Estrela lies at your feed.

Biking (MTB or Road)

There are trails everywhere and easy accessible. You can start exploring straight from our property. There are also marked trails available.

Trail 9 touches our back gate. We selected a lot of routes, ready to be downloaded on your phone.

Aldeias historicas de Portugal

Aldeias historicas de Portugal is a non-profit private association that aims to promote the Historic Villages of Portugal network, which includes Almeida, Belmonte, Castelo Mendo, Castelo Novo, Castelo Rodrigo, Idanha-a-Velha, Linhares da Beira, Marialva, Monsanto, Piódão, Sortelha and Trancoso. Starbase18 is located in the center of the 12 villages and therefore can be your central base when visiting them. The 12 Historic Villages of Portugal are located in the central interior of Portugal, spread over 10 municipalities – Almeida, Arganil, Belmonte, Celorico da Beira, Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo, Fundão, Idanha-a-Nova, Meda, Sabugal and Trancoso.

Aldeias de montanha

The “Aldeias de montanha” project works actively to promote the integrated development of the Mountain Villages Network of 41 villages as an unified brand of the touristic potential of the Serra da Estrela region and Beira Interior.

Playgrounds

Scattered on our property you can find various entertainment for kids. In our village and in Guarda there are very well maintained playgrounds as well.

Stargazing

The Serra da Estrela isn't called 'Star mountains' for nothing, during the nights you can take in the wonders of our universe. During the summer months you have a high chance of catching a glimpse of meteor trails.
